    PHP and MySQL 101

August 2, 2015 10:00 am • LACI, Los Angeles, CA • Learn more

PHP was one of the first and still is the most popular language on the web for building dynamic websites without having to compile code. As a server-side language, PHP allows authors to retrieve data from any database, manipulate it, and display it on the web, enabling users to interact with it. To date, PHP powers millions of websites including Facebook, Etsy, and the most popular CMS applications, like WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.

This course is an introduction to PHP meant for budding programmers. We we cover PHP syntax, basic server-side concepts, and MySQL. A familiarity with basic HTML and CSS is required.

Teacher, TA, Mentor, and Volunteer Interest Night

August 6, 2015 7:00 pm • DreamHost, Los Angeles, CA • Learn more

Interested in becoming an instructor, teaching assistant, mentor or volunteer for Girl Develop It? Come on out and enjoy the stellar sunset views from the 50th floor and enjoy a yummy dinner provided by our host and sponsor, DreamHost, while we discuss all the different (and fun) ways you can help out!

The number one remark we get from our volunteers and teachers is that working with Girl Develop It is both fun and rewarding! We focus on building community and empowering our students to take control of their own learning and skill development. And we’re growing fast! We’ve more than doubled the size of our group in the first half of 2015 and we’re looking to keep growing and possibly double again by the end of the year! To get there, we need lots of help!
